Longevity on dermal fillers!
Injectable fillers can last several months, depending on how the bodies metabolism holds on to that hyaluronic acid, and the natural enzyme starts breaking it down. However, many patients choose to have refresher treatments once they start showing signs that the product has worn off. I will say there is a temporary nature of fillers. For example, it’s best to research or try different fillers to see which one works best for the results you are trying to achieve.
Why Is there longevity on fillers?
Most fillers are soft tissue and are typically formulated using hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found naturally in the skin. Hyaluronic acid maintains hydration and gives the skin and face volume. That’s why soft tissue fillers are used to fill in wrinkles, replace lost volume, and even augment the lips. Being hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, the enzyme gradually breaks down in the body, eventually disappearing altogether. Once this happens, patients must get another treatment to maintain the results. Metabolism definitely affects how quickly fillers break down, but most soft tissue formulas don’t last beyond a year or two.
Average Longevity Fillers
There is a variety on many different types of fillers, and the middle round up estimates about 6 months. At the top end, the average is around 12 months, although depending on the formulation there are a few fillers that are expected to last up to 2 years or more. Here’s some idea on the lifeline of the filler community.
Up to 6 Months
Basic Soft tissue hyaluronic acid fillers are estimated to last up to about 6 months, sometimes longer. Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero are all in this category, and are used for wrinkle treatment and natural effect.
6 to 12 Months
Juvederm Volbella and Restylane Silk, have been optimized for high-movement areas of the face and are designed to last as long as possible in the lips, being there a bit specialized fillers.
12 Months to 2 Years
I would say Juvederm Voluma is definitely my go to with a long last beautiful effect. Voluma is formulated specifically for the cheek area and it generally lasts for up to two years, much longer than other hyaluronic acid formulas. I also couldn’t say enough about Radiesse filler. It is an anti-aging filler that typically lasts up to 18 months. Radiesse is made from calcium hydroxyapatite, which is found naturally in teeth and bones. Radiesse works by encouraging the body’s own collagen production, which results in long-lasting rejuvenation. Sculptra works in a very similar way for long-lasting results that can be apparent for 2 years or more.
How can I choose the filler that is right for me?
Having an open mind along with doing your research, and discussing the results you are are trying to achieve with your injector is the best way to go, Try to keep in mind that the filler that’s right for you isn’t always the one that lasts the longest. There are many factors to consider when choosing your filler. Please schedule a consultation to discuss the goals and the results you are trying to achieve, with your injector. Must I mention, it is the best time time to ask about any detailed questions you might have.
